It was quite by chance that I ended up shooting Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster last Friday. A few weeks ago, around 2am on a Saturday night, I met fellow photographer Fyfe Ewing in a bar in Brighton. We bonded over a mutual appreciation for whiskey, Nikon and Mark Lanegan, and I also thought it was pretty cool that he played drums for Therapy? We met up the following week and he asked me to shoot a couple of promos with him, the first of which was 80s Matchbox.
The 80s Matchbox guys had just finished a rehearsal and only had half an hour or so for the shoot, so we had to work in the rehearsal space. Their management asked for individual shots as well as a group shot. I composited the individual images together to make a second group shoot. I’ve not done many composites like this before, so it was fun to try it out, but I know a few things I’d do differently next time. Anyway, they were all real nice guys. The band’s just reformed after a break, and they have a gig on 30th October in Brighton (at Concorde2) so get down to that!
