After shooting these guys’ promo images earlier this month, I was looking forward to seeing them play live at Concorde2, Brighton, on 30th October 2012. The venue was totally sold out! Support band Clowns were awesome, but everyone went crazy for 80s Matchbox. Frontman Guy McKnight stagedived right across the photo pit and it was total carnage 🙂
Last week, I met up with local musician Chris Phillips who needed some headshots. We took these photos in Bohemia in Brighton where I’ve done two other shoots recently, which I’ll be uploading soon. Chris was really lovely to work with – you can check him out at his website here!
Photographed the utterly spellbinding Lianne La Havas at Brighton’s Concorde2 last week. I didn’t know much of her stuff before the gig, but she put on an amazing performance – definitely see her if you get chance! She was chatting with the crowd and signing autographs, even spent some time chatting with fans after the gig 🙂
Oh, and check out Emily Volkert’s review HERE!
A couple of weeks ago, I was shooting promo images for Brighton indie-pop band Chungking. The band had some fairly specific ideas in mind for the main image of the three of them, but I also did some individual shots of vocalist Jessie. Here’s my favourite two images from the shoot!
It was kinda last minute on Friday afternoon that I found out I was accredited for this show, but I’m a big fan of Slash and Myles Kennedy, so I was pretty excited to shoot this gig. And they played ‘Mr Brownstone’ 🙂 LIVE! Slash feat. Myles Kennedy + The Conspirators, Mark Tremonti, and Ginger Wildheart @ Brixton Academy, London – 12th October 2012
It was quite by chance that I ended up shooting Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster last Friday. A few weeks ago, around 2am on a Saturday night, I met fellow photographer Fyfe Ewing in a bar in Brighton. We bonded over a mutual appreciation for whiskey, Nikon and Mark Lanegan, and I also thought it was pretty cool that he played drums for Therapy? We met up the following week and he asked me to shoot a couple of promos with him, the first of which was 80s Matchbox.
The 80s Matchbox guys had just finished a rehearsal and only had half an hour or so for the shoot, so we had to work in the rehearsal space. Their management asked for individual shots as well as a group shot. I composited the individual images together to make a second group shoot. I’ve not done many composites like this before, so it was fun to try it out, but I know a few things I’d do differently next time. Anyway, they were all real nice guys. The band’s just reformed after a break, and they have a gig on 30th October in Brighton (at Concorde2) so get down to that!
Last night, I was photographing hardcore Watford quintet Gallows at The Haunt in Brighton. Couldn’t be more different from Monday night’s gig! I must confess, I’ve not listened to their third self-titled album yet (released last month), but I’ve had their new video on repeat – love this track!
I never usually shoot live bands with flash, but there were no stage lights (just epilepsy-inducing strobes!) so it was kinda essential. From a photography perspective, these are my absolute favourite types of gigs to shoot. There’s so much going on – crowdsurfing, stage diving, circle pits etc. Both Feed The Rhino and Gallows put on stellar performances, check them out at one of the dates below if you get chance!
