I’ve worked with Sam Chason on a number of different shoots now. He’s an up’n’coming male model in Brighton and I always enjoy working with him. For this shoot, he needed some updated shots for his portfolio, and we shot these around Hassocks.

I did this shoot a few weeks ago but have only just got round to editing and blogging after a busy few weeks.

I first worked with Sam in September 2011 on one of the first shoots I ever put together. It was pretty ambitious (involving three models, two make up artists, and one hair stylist, as well as sourcing dresses from a designer and booking a location) since I was still very much a novice with hardly any experience, but it turned out OK… You can see my blog post from that shoot HERE. At the time, I think I was probably quite proud of those photos, but now I mostly see the (many, huge!) flaws in them. But I guess it’s sometimes good to punch above your weight; I learn far better through personal experience than by reading something or listening to somebody else.

For this shoot, Sam needed some updated portfolio images, so we headed out to the woods near his house in Hassocks. I wanted to practise balancing flash with ambient light for some of the sets, and then we improvised as we wandered through the woods and saw locations that we liked. Sam is always great to work with and I think he’s a fantastic model, so this ended up being a pretty easy-going, fun afternoon. You can check out his ModelMayhem profile HERE.
