I was stoked to interview and photograph Graeme Clarke from Wet Wet Wet at a bar in Brighton! My parents played their music all the time when I was a kid, so it was awesome to meet one of the guys who wrote and performed the soundtrack to my childhood..! I shot this band over a year ago, but they’ve since gone through some line up changes. They’d come down from Manchester, and after spending the day recording some tracks in the studio, we had little over an hour to do this shoot….before they raced off to a music video shoot! The champagne shot was really fun to try again (we did the same in their original images last year and it was requested again!), although my strip boxes got soaked and needed a decent clean afterwards!
Earlier in July 2013 I met up with Graeme Clark from Wet Wet Wet to do a feature interview for RedHotVelvet. You can find the full piece HERE We ended up chatting for over two hours and then did a really quick couple of photos in the bar where we met, which I’ve posted below.
Wet Wet Wet are doing a greatest hits tour in December this year, so hopefully I’ll get to shoot one of those gigs too!
On Monday (June 2013), I was with Cage The Gods in London. They’re currently on a 5-date tour with Aussie rockers Tracer across the UK. CTG’s backstage area was the ladies toilets, so we hung out there for a bit before the show! NJ thought it’d be a good idea for Mitch to climb up on top of the speakers during their first single ‘Bruce Willis’ but during a practise run pre-gig, Mitch realised the only problem might be getting back down! The audience loved it though, and the guys got great feedback. Tracer hit the stage afterwards and were awesome too – frontman Michael took inspiration from Mitch and climbed up on the other speaker stack 😉 We took some photos of CTG with friends and fans, then helped Tracer load out their gear; at the Scala everything’s up two flights of stairs! A couple of weeks ago, I did a portrait shoot with Nigerian-born Brighton-based rapper/model Gerrald. I hadn’t met Gerrald before shooting, but he was a natural in front the camera, and it was difficult to choose which shots to edit! It was nice to finally get outside and do a shoot in natural light 🙂
The Easter weekend kicked off to a good start on Friday with Cage The Gods’ first headline show in Brighton. Sticky Mike’s isn’t my favourite Brighton venue to shoot at since there’s no photo pit and it can be very dark, but it was a good show and it was nice to see the guys play on their home turf! I shot this set with my new 50mm f/1.4 lens, which I looooved for a recent engagement shoot I did but I think I’ll stick to my 24-70 2.8 in future for gigs.
