My pals at TRIBE had their launch party at Preston Circus in Brighton at the weekend! TRIBE is an urban axe throwing pop-up, available for events, festivals, parties and more. The chiefs give specialised instruction on how to sling axes, and the vibe in the queue was electric as everyone cheered each others’ bullseyes!

Here are a few photos from Çigdem Aslan‘s live show at the Brighton Dome Studio Theatre. I was photographing for world music blog Rhythm Passport and was lucky enough to have 10 minutes with Çigdem before the show started to do a quick portrait session to go alongside an interview piece.
It was one of the first shows of the tour and although Çigdem seemed a little nervous about our shoot, she looked glamorous in her floor length gown (“I found it at a charity shop!”) and didn’t mind me asking her to clamber over the venue’s tiered seating to get the shot. We were soon giggling as we tried out different poses, but I love this main shot with Çigdem’s red shoes peeping out under the hem of her dress.

On Friday I was shooting the awesome Rizzle Kicks at the Brighton Centre. You can check out some of my photographs of the support bands – Bang Bang Bang and Bassment Project – on my blog HERE It was the first time I’d seen these guys live and they put on such an energetic show! Back in November, I was commissioned to shoot Coheed and Cambria for Team Rock’s Prog magazine. Arcane Roots were supporting, and it was a great show. I’ve always followed Coheed, so it was nice to be able to shoot them for a full page piece in Prog. I remember doing a work experience placement at NME magazine when I was 15 or 16, and sifting through press releases in the mail bag, listening to the CDs and sorting through the printed photographs (which seems so archaic now everything is done by email!) Coheed and Cambria’s press campaign for their debut album ‘Second Stage Turbine Blade’ was amongst the hundreds of CDs, I was a fan of it straight away!

Last weekend I was shooting The Great Escape festival in Brighton for XYZ Magazine. I hadn’t seen Example before but he hit the stage around midnight and it was a great atmosphere! Check out some of my photos of the other artists below.
Last week, I was looking forward to shooting Jessie J’s second night (07th November 2013) at The Brighton Centre for XYZ magazine. Normally, when shooting for a publication you’re only allowed to photograph the first three songs so that you’re not annoying the audience for the whole show. That afternoon, however, I got a phone call from Jessie J’s management. They wanted to commission me to shoot the whole show! I was given an AAA pass and the run of the entire venue.
The show’s production was awesome: waterfall pyrotechnics and lasers and canon streamers. Jessie J put on a great performance; I thought I’d only recognise a couple of songs, but found myself singing along to most of them. I’m used to shooting much smaller shows, so this was a great opportunity to work at a bigger venue with a great client. Jessie moves around a LOT on stage, so it was a fun challenge to focus at 2.8 at 200mm, but overall I’m pleased with the final photographs. The show was split into five parts and she had a different outfit for each part, which made it really hard to narrow down my favourite photos!

I was stoked to interview and photograph Graeme Clarke from Wet Wet Wet at a bar in Brighton! My parents played their music all the time when I was a kid, so it was awesome to meet one of the guys who wrote and performed the soundtrack to my childhood..! Graeme’s releasing a solo album and touring to support it. Check out his website HERE for more info.
